Arrival of a better OCR
ABBYY is a global technology company that provides solutions for document processing. The company was founded by David Yang, born in Yerevan, the city that has an EasyData R&D office now. ABBYY was founded in 1989 by a pioneering group of linguists and engineers. In the early nineties, the company conducted linguistic, optical text recognition and data capture research. OCR technology research was financed from the profit of Lingvo, an advanced electronic dictionary that was very popular in the nineties. EasyData supported the license sales until 2015, which shows that Lingvo has long been able to compete with free online translation services.
ABBYY Lingvo
So Lingvo was something special and with the launch of FineReader, market expectations were pretty high. In the nineties, optical character recognition (OCR) for scanned documents was in its infancy. FineReader was the first product that could actually convert scanned text into an electronic editable document with minimal number of errors.
ABBYY FineReader
FineReader is still one of the most popular OCR products on the market. With over 100 million users, the company has proven to make text recognition accessible to everyone. ABBYY fully realized their ambition to develop accurate, reliable and user-friendly OCR software. The company has also succeeded in splitting FineReader OCR technology into several product groups. The line of products offers solutions for individual users, for small and large organizations with various licensing options to suit everyone.
The role of EasyData
EasyData delivered its first ABBYY FineReader runtime license for an OCR text recognition solution in 1999. It was designed for Océ, at the time an independent Dutch manufacturer of multifunctional / all-in-one printers. After this successful start, EasyData sold customized solutions to many more MFP suppliers.
ABBYY SDK-based solutions
EasyData’s EasySeparate was our first product powered by ABBYY SD . EasyData still develops this product and the video on this link shows the development history. ABBYY FineReader is a part of EasySeparate thanks to ABBYY FineReader SDK. Our engineers are experts in building products with ABBYY SDK since 1999.
ABBYY FlexiCapture
With the ABBYY developments around FlexiCapture, this data capture technology was introduced into EasySeparate. This enabled EasyData to enter the market of invoice processing, among other things. Besides invoices, EasyData used FlexiTemplate technology to recognize unstructured documents. With the modern state of the art data extraction technologies FlexiCapture has now moved in support territory for us, new data capture projects are mostly implemented with the use of Machine Learning.
ABBYY Vantage
ABBYY as a company have embraced Machine Learning and are focusing on NeoML, among other things. Every Data Science company makes its own considerations in this regard. We see ABBYY’s efforts in the field of Machine Learning and AI reflected in ABBYY Vantage. This is a next-generation Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) platform that offers cognitive services and trained skills (Skills) using artificial intelligence (AI) to “understand” unstructured documents, make sense of and extract the in a more human way (Intelligent Data Capture).
ABBYY Timeline
Timeline is an application for visualizing historical events from unstructured text documents such as news articles or e-mails. The tool allows users to see how concepts evolve and identify patterns and trends over time.
EasyData supports FlexiCapture and Vantage
Today, we serve a wider range of companies in the field of process automation solutions. For this, EasyData has an experienced FlexiCapture engineering team. Our FlexiCapture engineers play a crucial role in the success of every FlexiCapture project that we deal with.
